Patrik Berg is back on exzess and continues to set accents in terms of groove and energy. With the 2 tracker "Fast Moves", Patrik once again proves his versatility in terms of creativity & sense of style these days. Forward thinking productions. 
The first track „Carefree“ is a "groovemonster" but still tries to create as much emotion as possible with as few elements as possible. Classic 909 elements from Patriks analog drum machines provide the groove while rolling 909 toms play the bass melody. Vocal chops and short phrases once again show the strong connection to the world of 90s hip hop. In combination with attack-rich stabs and high pads, the result is an emotional hard grooving construct which proves the artists very own but also very diverse style.
The second track of the EP is „Phantom“. A dark, groovy and highly energetic ride. With this track Patrik once again expresses his deep respect for 90s and 80s hip hop by extracting the vibe of that time through short but aggressive vocal chops and spicing it up with modern techno elements. The main theme of the track are noisy synth chords that unfold their full potential as soon as the filter opens. The whole thing is driven by a drum pattern that is phat in the lows and brilliant in the highs. High energy and only fast moves!

Disconnect Me

The long wait is finally over! The collaboration between Techno legend Kai Tracid and our label head Patrik Berg is here. We are super happy and honored to have Kai on board, and we think the result speaks for itself.

"Disconnect Me" starts with a heavy bass drum and an extra portion of bass. Sharp hi-hats and distorted percussion grooves the listener to an epochal cinematic break. The distorted lead synth sets scenes by filter and pitch automations almost in the full spectrum and plays question & answer with the stab synth during the hypnotic AI vocal demands to disconnect it. Afterward, the listener is surprised by staccato-like stab that have been cleverly programmed.
In the final break, a wonderful sounding arpeggio comes into play that takes the listener through wild panorama and speed programming that is second to none. Supported by the lead melody and the vocal, the track is on its zenith before all the energy in the drop is discharged with the stabs and heavy bass.

8 years ago, The Yellowheads released a track called 'Tyson’ in honor of their best friend's beloved cat who passed away.
One year ago, they were pleasantly surprised to hear this track again, this time in the hands of Patrik Berg. That's when they had the idea to reach out to Patrik and ask if he would be interested in doing a rework of this track that means so much to them. Patrik agreed instantly! And today, we are proud to present this rework - Tyson Punch Version 2023!

Reminder

Notfall

We are beyond excited to present you the single „Notfall“ which was created in collaboration between the well-known spanish artist Ramiro Lopez and exzess label head Patrik Berg during a spontaneous studio session at Patrik's place in cologne.

„Notfall“ which means emergency in German, starts with a powerful but also groovy drum pattern which already reflects the signature of both artists. The main theme of the track is a constantly changing and grainy texture that makes every single brain cell of the listener vibrate. At first it is introducing more subtly, but then it runs brute frontally through the track and is reminiscent of a intergalactic landing from outter space. The profound male vocal takes you into a supernatural state of being and is delayed over large tape while the aggressive stabs make it clear that it’s only going in one direction: straight forward.

Punchline

"Punchline" starts with an enormous 808 kick-drum, grooved by pumped up 909 toms and surrounded by a mechanical atmosphere. In the first break the piece explains how it got it's name. The old school 90's hip hop punchline by the legendary Big Daddy Kane prepares the listener for the first drop in the coolest way possible. After the drop the first musical theme is filtered in. The classic 90's house stabs immediately and fits perfectly into the groove pattern. The whole thing is dramatically supported by different drum elements until surprisingly all elements are replaced by a siren that takes no prisoners on the dance-floor. The punchline supports all the elements throughout the track and leads the listener into the final breakdown, which starts a bit more silent and elevates into an explosive drop where the stabs shows the tracks full potential."
